Life gets in the way

I know that i am behind not only in my posts but my diet as well. Life has thrown us a curveball.
First let me say my first 7 days on the diet i lost 14 pounds...so it does work.
Secondly my oldest child is in serious health condition and has been in LeBonheur for 3 days and no end in sight.
So while i will get back to my diet blog..hopefuly as life allows..i am asking that u shift ur attention for a moment to lift up my son Tripp in your prayers! thanx

Living in the Light

Let me first start by saying...my thoughts and prayers are with those all affected by the earthquake and tsunamis today. Be prepared..the Lord is coming and I am afraid this is only the beginning of what is in store for us.

That being said i have been awake up and going since 8am. For those who know me that is a huge deal for me. After working nights for many many years my body and mind have stayed on that timeline and i usually sleep most of the day.

So i started off the day going to the gym! I have paid for this gym for a year and this is the first time i have stepped inside. My best friend Melinda came along for motivation and girl time. I did a mile on the tredmill. I know thats not great but it is a step in the right direction. I worked up a good sweat and it really woke me up!

Next we went prom dress shopping for her daughter..then off to lunch. I had a grilled chicken salad and diet coke...it was yummy! Then it was time to relax for a full body massage @ Massage Envy...it was glorious! After a little more shopping then i went home and started supper. Tonite i made a chicken stir fry with veggies and a great cooking creme from the makers of Philly creme cheese. My hubby and i ate until we were stuffed......and it was all carb and sugar free!! after dinner is usually our uh-oh time when we want to snack. We each had a sugar free jello pudding cup and a half a glass of lowfat milk.

So far i feel very satisfied and not missing the carbs and sugar at all! Its all about baby steps and determination! I promise to post pics and measurements soon!

Being thin is EXPENSIVE!!!

Atkins is not a diet that you can just start...it takes planning. Esp when it come to meals. Planning ahead with a menu and always having meals ready is the key to success. It takes away the guess work and temptations!

So i sat down and planned out a weeks worth of menus. List in hand i headed off to the grocery store. Let me also add in here that my family has ZERO  interest in doing this diet with me or even remotely giving up any of thier comfort foods. So i actualy have to plan two menus! Well the grocery store was a real eye opener!

FYI: for those who dont know and are wanting to try a diet of some sorts..let me tell u how the grocery store works. STAY ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF THE GROCERY STORE....perimeter (for the most part) means healthy....INSIDE AISLES ARE A NO NO! All the good comfort foods and things that arent good for you are on the inside aisles!

The inside aisles are also your least expensive!It really does cost alot to eat healthy. Esp when you are just getting started from scratch and have to buy all the staples! if our presidents wife is soooo concerned about healthy children then there should be an added  tax on junk food and give us a break on healthy stuff!

But  i will not be discouraged! I will keep an eye on the sales papers and may have to shop several different stores to catch sales; but i will trudge on!

And so it begins...

First let me say thank you for reading my blog; this is a journey that i have put off for way too long and i cant do it anymore.

I am a wife, a mom and a nurse.I am 37 yrs old. But most of all i am a fat person. I currently weigh 239 lbs ( oh my gosh i just heard every woman gasp!) what woman in her right mind would dare tell her weight and age??? Thats the whole point of this blog and this journey. I cant hide behind excuses anymore and i need to be held accountable for my procrastination, over eating and laziness to exercise. So what better way than to let my readers know exactly whats going on?

Today i start Atkins. I had a really bad scare last week and found myself in the ER thinking i was having a heart attack...thank goodness it wasnt. But it really could have been and most of the problems are caused by my weight. Hopefuly this blog will keep me motivated and on track. I will be posting more pics..and measurements later. And i hope to post weekly updates..with my weight. The picture on my profile was taken with my son on his 17th birthday..1-13-2011. So my goal is to have a much healthier picture for his 18th birthday.

Again thank you for reading...i dont promise to be a great writer...but this is going to be a very blunt, honest and in depth log dealing with the up and downs of weight loss as i take my journey to being healthy ever after!
